Slackware Linux

The first release of Slackware Linux was in April 1993 and it is probably the oldest Linux distibution still being maintained. Simplicity and stability have always been the primary considerations of Slackware; simplicity in Slackware's case is simplicity of system design rather than ease of use, so it is not necessarily the most user friendly Linux distribution. The current versions of Slackware run on i486 and higher processors.

Slackware's package management system simply extracts the binary files into the appropriate locations and does not bother to check for dependencies, but there are a number of tools to analyze packages and determine what libraries are required. These tools include swaret, slapt-get, slackupdate, emerde and slackpkg.
