Sabayon Linux

Sabayon Linux is a Gentoo Linux based distribution which runs as both a live CD/DVD and graphical installer with pre-compiled packages. The installation process is far simpler and much faster than a regular Gentoo install because you do not need to compile anything yourself. Once the system is installed you use the regular Gentoo Portage system for updating and installing new software; this does require compiling software.

Order Sabayon Linux 3.5 & Sabayon Professional Edition 1.1

Sabayon 3.5 was released on December 24th 2007, the 3.4 mini edition on September 23rd 2007, and the 1.1 Professional Edition on October 23rd 2007. The 3.5 release is home desktop and gaming oriented, including games and the latest nvidia and ATI graphics drivers. The mini edition is similar but contains less applications. The Professional Edition (previously known as the Business Edition) instead aims for a fast stable "office needs" system. Read the Sabayon 3.5 release announcement and the Professional Edition release notes for more details.

32 bit and 64 bit? If the processor in your computer is an AMD64 or an Intel64 then you can use the 64 bit version. All other computers should use the 32 bit version. If in doubt about which to buy, choose the 32 bit version as it will work on both types.

The Linux CD Mall will be reopening soon.

Known issues with the 3.5 release

  • Elisa Media Center is known to not work
  • AMD video drivers hang during the first X session startup (known issue and latest drivers didn't work at all with X.Org 7.3). To workaround this, just press F5 at the boot menu and write "noaccelmanager" then press Enter or just try to boot without fglrx drivers, writing "noproprietary"
  • Update the installer before starting an Upgrade (only for this) - tarinfo Python module didn't work well with aspell-* packages, it's been already workarounded in Entropy SVN repository. The updated installer will just take care of this without crashing.
  • UnionFS 2.1.11 causes system freezes with 2.6.23 kernels, that's why we switched to AUFS, be advised.

Your Sabayon DVD or CDs are created using high quality Taiyo Yuden DVDs or Verbatim DataLifePlus CDs. They are sent in a DVD sized case as shown below which holds either a single DVD or CD. The case is then shipped bubble wrapped in a plastic waterproof mailer.
