Mint Linux

Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu but comes with better "out of the box" support for browser plugins, media codecs, support for DVD playback, Java and other components. Linux Mint is able to be updated using the regular Ubuntu repositries once installed.

Order Linux Mint 4.0 "Daryna"

Linux Mint 4.0, codenamed Daryna, and compatible with Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 and its repositories, was released on November 15th 2007 in a Gnome edition. The KDE Edition was released on March 3rd 2008; the CD and DVD version are the same, although the CD version does not include the following software: Inkscape, Hugin, Scribus, KMymoney2, K9copy, The Gimp, libicu34, kde-icons-mono, ttf-arabeyes, OpenOffice.org, diveintopython, kde-icons-nuvox, kaffeine, knotes, kdepim.

Order Linux Mint 3.1 "Celena"

Linux Mint 3.1, codenamed Celena, and compatible with Ubuntu 7.04, was released on September 24th 2007 in a Gnome edition. As with previous editions of Mint, other desktop environments should follow in the coming weeks.

Order Linux Mint 3.0 "Cassandra"

Linux Mint 3.0, codenamed Cassandra and based on Ubuntu Feisty, comes in Gnome, KDE and Xfce editions. The Gnome edition was released on May 30th 2007, Xfce edition on August 7th 2007 and KDE edition on August 14th 2007. The release notes are available on the Linux Mint website for the Gnome edition, the Xfce edition and the KDE edition for more information.

The KDE edition comes on either a CD or a DVD. There are slightly fewer software packages on the CD version.
